What You Need To Know About Tonight's Monument Lighting

It's one of the Baltimore Holidays must do events, so here's the rundown of everything you need to know about the 2012 Washington Mounment Lighting.

Everything kicks off at 5:30PM, with the official ceremony starting at 7.  There will be 4 different city choirs signing carols from 5:30-7:30PM.   At 7:45, the monument is lit, and the fireworks begin.  It should all be over just after 8PM.

While you can see the fireworks from any side of the monument (and the official address of the event is 600 North Charles street), it's really meant to be watched from the west park, looking at the east side of the monument.  Lasers project on this side, and there's a stage setup on this side as well.

It's ok if you can't make the event, as WBAL TV (Channel 11) will be airing it live starting at 7PM.  They use a helicopter to capture some amazing views of the fireworks, so check back here afterward for the video.  Here's the video from last year:

And here are videos from 2010 and 2009

The Baltimore Sun has provided a nice listing of all food vendors, and what they should have available.  Remember to bring cash, as there are a few that might not take credit cards.

The Charm City Circulator will have some changes as well:
"Just a reminder that the lighting of the Washington Monument is today. We'll be running a revised Purple Route beginning at 6:00pm and service will be extended until 9:00PM on all four routes. The Washington Monument stop #307 will be closed during this time."
Make sure to allot plenty of time if you're taking the Circulator, as the buses will be at full capacity for the event.

Here is the official  website for the event.
