After 187 years of rain, snow, wind, and sun, the Lady Baltimore statue on top of the Battle of Baltimore monument will be moved indoors to the Walters Art Gallery. From her perch 39 feet high, she's had an unbridled view down South Calvert Street and the harbor promenade. She'll be replaced by a duplicate as part of a nearly $150,000 restoration of the monument.
Built between 1815 and 1825, the monument commemorates the defense of the city against the British invasion in 1814 (during the War of 1812).
